This has bugged me for quite a while. First, let me preface by saying that I am 100% for freedom of religion and religious expression just as I am 100% for freedom of speech and self-expression (“your rights end where my ears begin” meaning if I can’t take you’re speech, I need to leave). That said, a lot of things about organized religion worries me. Of course there’s the big topics like the scientific validity of a diety, the carbon dating of human made objects 10x as old as the Christian World (tm), and a bunch of other stuff. The thing that’s bothering me now is the jesus fish on bumpers. Specifically, why does it face left? Left is considered evil in MANY Christian texts. So why would the fish face left? Even funnier, all of the Darwin fish, sushi fish, and other mockeries of the Jesus fish face right. Something like this would normally just make me chuckle, but when I asked a random person who asked me about my license plate about their Jesus fish they assumed I was making fun and scoffed and walked away.
